Science

The International Elias Canetti Society sees science as a central foundation for the development of an open, critical and sustainable society. In an age of growing complexity and global challenges, scientific engagement with social, cultural and political issues is of particular importance. Our goal is to make scientific findings accessible to a broad audience, to promote transdisciplinary thinking and to intensify dialogue between research, society and culture.

The Science Department initiates and supports projects of social relevance – from lectures and publications, such as the ECG series, to workshops and panel discussions, to research-based exhibitions and conferences. The focus is always on an open, critical concept of science that combines theory and practice, reflection and action.

A particular focus is placed on promoting young scientists and raising awareness of scientific perspectives in a local and European context. Communication is participatory and dialogical, encouraging critical self-reflection, constructive engagement with other perspectives and the assumption of social responsibility.

Working closely with leading figures in political education, art and culture, we regularly develop interdisciplinary projects that create new approaches to knowledge and accompany processes of social transformation – very much in the spirit of Elias Canetti, whose thinking stands for building bridges between science, art and society.
