+++ 18:00 – 21:00 Literature readings
+++ 21:00 – 23:00 Afterparty mit DJ Axel in Canetti House

On May 15th 2013 the event Literature Night will take place for the very first time in Ruse. In the frame of this project, public readings at unconventional urban places are held where on every half an hour actors or popular people from the public sphere will read extracts from contemporary European literary works. At every designated place an actor is going to continually read one extract. The audience will, thus, be able to move from one place to another, having the opportunity to get in touch with literary works by authors from Austria, Great Britain, Macedonia, Poland, Russia, Hungary, France, Croatia and Czech Republic.

The project Literature Night is based on the premise of literature being a unique creative tool of mutual understanding, cultural exchange helping to break down communication barriers. It aims to promote the dialogue between art and the urban space and to create a platform for presenting contemporary European literature to a wide readership of both literature fans and professionals: translators, publishers, distributors.

Even though the Literature Night takes place in Bulgaria only for the second time, the initiative is very enthusiastically welcomed by many Bulgarian cities such as Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Pernik, Pleven, Plovdiv, Ruse, Sofia and Shumen.

The event is initiated by the Czech Centre Sofia.
With the support of Goethe Institute, Austrian Embassy, British Council, the representation of the European Commission, Macedonian Cultural and Information Centre, Polish Institute, Russian Cultural and Information Centre, Hungarian Cultural Institute, French Institute, Sofia Poetics Festival,
