Opening on 29.06.2023 at 17.00 in Canetti House, in blvd. 12 “Slavyanski”

The exhibition will be presented in Ruse invited by the International “Elias Canetti” Society. Its curator is Malvina Talik – research fellow at the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe. She is coming to Ruse to open it in person. Malvina is from Poland, but for 10 years the Danube has been part of her daily life in Vienna. Photography is her passion and at the same time part of her work with the organization of this exhibition.

“Together with Mario Lackner, a colleague of mine, we wanted to show different perspectives of life on the banks of the Danube. It was important to have every country represented in the exhibition to highlight how diverse and international the river is. The challenge was that sometimes we would get many pictures from one country and only a few from another. What connects all the dots and pictures is a story told by the Danube, which you can read when you visit the exhibition. This is just one of the ways you can approach the exhibition. I also use it as a starting point to talk about many aspects of life on the Danube: recreation, tourism, biodiversity, agriculture, trade, but also challenges such as water scarcity, pollution, the dilemma between nature conservation and economic progress.”

So far the exhibition has only been shown in Vienna at the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe. Ruse will be the first stop on its upcoming trip outside Austria. Part of the events for the International Day of the River Ruse. Danube is the operetta gala concert-performance of the State Opera – Ruse “Visiting Little Vienna” on June 30.
