Concert
February, 22th 2013 (Friday)
MAX CLUB, Ruse, Alexandrovska Str. 84
10 p.m.
The Sicilian quintet HARUNDO is a unique formation, combining elements of progressive, jazz, Mediterranean folklore, irregular Balkan rhythms, medieval atmosphere and new chamber music. Their style can be compared to some major European bands from the ’90s, such as Nimal (Switzerland / Slovenia) and Ritual Nova Ensemble by Boris Kovach but they are inclined to search for new sounds and meanings in their music-making.
In their second studio album called by no chance Kopar, the Sicilians in their own manner get really closer not only to the South Balkan tradition but also to the atmosphere from the works of artists like Renaud Garcia-Fons and Dhafer Youssef.
The founder of HARUNDOGiampieroCannata (bass, ukulele, guitar, mandolin) has graduated in Archaeology which has a positive influence on the ideological and aesthetic concepts in their music. The rest of the group members are music teachers. There is also a Bulgarian participation in HARUNDO – Alexandra Dimitrova, violinist and co-author of the arrangements, who has been living in Italy for more than 20 years and also gives concerts around the world (an interesting fact is that she has played with Roy Paci). The group is known to the local audience from their participation in the third art forum Without Borders in Balchik (2011).
The musicians chose Bulgaria to launch the world premiere of their new album Kopar. Apart from Ruse their mini-tour includes Plovdiv on February, 21st and Sofia on February, 23rd.
Pre-sale tickets for both concerts – on TixGate, TicketPlus and Eventim, as well as at the EasyPaykiosks in Bulgaria.
The event is organized by Alarma Punk Jazz with the support of the International Elias Canetti Society.
